ADSSG - ADS Study Group (ICAO)
The ADS Study Group (ICAO) refers to the Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS) Study Group, which is a technical study group under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS) is a surveillance technique that uses aircraft-derived data, which is received by the ground station via a data link. The ADS Study Group focuses on developing and implementing standards, guidelines, and recommendations for the use of ADS in aviation, particularly in the context of air traffic control and surveillance.
The main goals of the ADS Study Group include:
- Developing standards for ADS systems and their applications.
- Evaluating the performance of ADS systems and their impact on air traffic control operations.
- Identifying the benefits and limitations of ADS technology.
- Providing guidance and recommendations for the implementation of ADS systems worldwide.
The ADS Study Group works closely with other ICAO groups, such as the Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) Study Group, the Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN) Study Group, and the Surveillance and Broadcast Services (SBS) Study Group, to ensure the development of a comprehensive and harmonized global surveillance system.
The work of the ADS Study Group contributes to the overall goal of improving the safety, efficiency, and capacity of the global air transportation system by providing more accurate and reliable surveillance data to air traffic controllers.
